[He hadn't known what to make of Allura when they first met on that wild dance floor, with her eyes that shined with flowers and hair that seemed to drift on the melodic breeze of the music like clouds in a brilliant summer sky. Her wit was charming; her sincerity and compassion disarming in a way that he hadn't experienced since the day he met the Exalt on the castle grounds in Ylisstol.
'Twitterpated', Robin imagined some of his comrades would describe this. The way his heart fluttered at the thought of her certainly seemed to fit the definition.
Thus it was that Robin sought connection with her through the Amulets, carefully calling out to her in such a manner that wouldn't be too much of a bother that afternoon.]
Princess? I would like to see you, if you're available.
[Meanwhile, Allura was a little slower on the uptake (although the mice certainly noticed something~), but she certainly admired Robin from that brief meeting. Inquisitive, honest and trusting, not to mention a great dancer, she was sure they'd be good friends. So of course she's not too surprised and even pleased when she hears him through the crystals, just as she's checking on the task board.]
~Ah, hello, Robin! And I should be available in a few minutes, where would you like to meet?~
Edited (Because the mice insisted.) 2017-04-29 22:24 (UTC)
Yes, it will be (and the mice deserve everything they insist upon)
[There was a note of curiosity and fascination that could be felt through the connection with Robin's reply.]
Several people are walking around with a vibrantly purple drink today, and I've been advised that it came from Steambucks. The 'Peromei Frapp', I think it was called.
[...Whatever that meant. The brilliant color was intriguing, however, and everyone said that it tasted like candy-- that is, the ones who didn't fall into despair over the sour glitter that was sprinkled atop.]
It's quite hot today. Don't you think that would be interesting to try?
[Color her intrigued, especially since she's JUST recently discovered her alignment to Peromei. (She also wonders why it's purple instead of white, but they can talk colors and semantics in person.)]
~That does sound interesting. I'll be there shortly.~
[And soon enough he'll see her coming along, the mice riding on her shoulders. Her cloud-like hair is pulled into bun for now and she's sporting a smart pink walking dress, a bit more conservative than the off-shoulder lilac country dress she wore that night at the festival but still pretty, and she still gives him a bright-eyed, warm smile as they meet.]
[It didn't yet feel right for Robin to travel without his familiar hooded overcoat-- too heavy for the season yet too travel-worn from the sea and the desert sands to just be left behind in this land. He stood out in his overcoat moreso than he did with his ivory hair-- currently disordered from an intense morning plumbing the depths of the library.
He grinned broadly at the sight of Allura in her smart dress. She was fit to be a flower in a garden with the way her eyes caught the sun.]
Afternoon! You look like you've had an excellent day so far.
Indeed, it looks like there'll be an expedition in a week or so, not to mention a few temporary jobs that schedule well between my time at the Crescent School.
Very well. The libraries are filled with so much information that it's nothing short of impressive. Between the history and the Dunamis, the scholars here are quite learned-- and quite generous in sharing.
I'm starting to feel like I have a better understanding of this land thanks to everything.
...Now, all that's left is to find a proper job for myself. Tactics don't pay well when there isn't a war brewing.
Very true. Actually, how are you at combat and teaching? My friend Alice is always looking for new teachers, especially with so many different worlds and styles of fighting represented here.
I wouldn't carry a blade if I didn't know how to use it.
[Robin teased, and carefully lifted part of his overcoat to reveal the hilt of the steel sword he carried on his person-- just in case.]
While I haven't experience in teaching per se, I underwent my fair share of intense training at the hands of Knight before I was whisked to these lands.
...I'm a poor substitute for that man. But, if she'll have me, then it sounds like a reasonable opportunity.
Excellent, then I look forward to working together. And I know quite a few excellent swordsmen to recommend for sparring partners.
[(And the mice don't know whether to squee at more time spent together or groan at the fact that they're talking about WORK. It must be a humanoid thing, they thought Shiro and Alice were bad.) But oh hey, it's their turn in line now.]
[It was indeed a trait among humanoids to speak of work as readily as play, if not more so. Work was a familiar shield; play was vulnerability--and no one likes being vulnerable.]
I'll keep that in mind, [Robin said, steering forward to place their order: two Peromei Frapps... And a hope that the supplies were still in stock.]
[Yeeup. A shield that until coming here only the mice have been able to yank out of Allura's hands long enough for her actually be herself.
Their barista sure seems perky though... and might have shipping goggles on. "Sweet, two Peromei frapps it is~! AND since it's still Ena, we're offering a free Elios cookie with purchase for each couple!"
Wait, why would she bring that up-- oh. Aaaah she thought that Allura... and Robin... ah...]
[Fair as he was, even with the light tan born from many weeks and months travelling in all sorts of weather, the flustered reddening of his cheeks was apparent to everyone in the line.
He chuckled sheepishly.]
It's quite clever! You must have gotten plenty of business with it!
[Yup, Allura's got quite the furious blush of her own, even filling the air around them with steam as she TRIES to maintain some calm. Honestly, she shouldn't be THIS flustered but with so many people asking her about romance lately it's harder to just brush off than usual.
The barista however just smirks. "Ohhhhh I gotcha~! Hee, sooo DO you want the cookie? And if so, are you paying for it or is it going to be free~?"]
[Though the face was unfamiliar, the fuss over the payment called to mind several experiences that were simply impossible for him to forget-- and he instinctively found himself glancing over the woman's nametag before continuing his address.]
Free. We came together, which effectively fulfills the parameters of a 'couple' in the dictionary. Also, I'll be paying for everything-- Anna.
[He lifted an eyebrow at the woman, intent on impressing upon her that he wouldn't tolerate such price gouging over something so simplistic. There was no hiding the way he loosened his collar in the heat that had wafted into the little cafe at the barista's pointed words.
Robin counted out the appropriate amount of Sylves needed for the transaction and guided Allura out of the line to await their drinks-- and, heaving a flustered sigh, he held out the cookie in offering.]
A cookie for the lady's trouble? [He asked, flashing her a chagrinned smile.] And as apologies-- I sincerely did not know that promotion was ongoing.
[Hooray for rules lawyering! Honestly, though, that just makes Anna grin even more, maybe not-quite-so-covertly giving Allura a thumbs up, which doesn't really help how stunned and red-faced she is. (And the mice giving the same Cheshire cheers through their link only makes it worse.)
Still, the offer of the cookie snaps her out of her paralyzed flustering, as does the apology.]
No no, you're fine, it's a common enough mistake to make. But thank you.
[Dang the cookie looks delicious too, lightly spiced chocolate dough coated in blood orange icing. Also pretty big, so once she takes it she breaks it in half and holds one half back to Robin.]
[He hadn't brought two wars to a successful and positive end for nothing-- sometimes the best way to win was by playing the same kind of game.
Robin's brows lifted in surprise at the return offer, and he quickly glanced at the cookie in uncertainty before meeting Allura's warm smile.]
Well... if it's being offered, it'd be rude to say no.
[He accepted the other half, gladdened that he wouldn't need to make a return trip later on to try one for himself. The spiced chocolate and citrus notes reminded him of fare that could be found along the borders and port towns, where the fruits of a fine harvest met with the spices imported from elsewhere in the world.
[Although Allura's had a chance to become familiar with human cuisine by this point, there's still some wonder to it. (Okay and MAYBE by now she understands why the paladins keep whining about food goo's taste.)
She gives a pleasantly surprised noise into the cookie.] Mm! [Chew and swallow, because princess.] I wasn't expecting the spices that's rather nice. Would those be cinnamon and... ginger?
[He chewed on his half of cookie as well, heedless of gentle breeze that ruffled his hair with his simple joy in sharing a snack with a new friend.]
Ginger and cardamom, I think. The latter's harder to find along standard trade routes-- I hear that the tree is more difficult to grow than either ginger or cinnamon.
Is it now? Hm, agriculture must be more advanced in this world, cinnamon's a fairly common baking ingredient here. Hunk certainly uses it often enough.
Well, I imagine that the magic carried in our emotions may play a part. Agriculture where I'm from is still strongly dictated by the climate and seasons. Farmers do what they can... but they can only do so much.
Fair enough. Still, most of these ingredients are still new to me; my planet and the Earth in my world are very far apart, so our flora and fauna are obviously quite different and that effects the differences in cuisine as well.
[Save for the mice, of course, who are wondering when they're going to start talking about doki-dokis instead of boring plant things.]
[Clearly she needs to put him and Shiro in the same room then. ASTRONOMY!]
Venison... Ah, deer meat! But no, none of those animals existed on Altea at all. There are a few species that had superficial similarities to those native to Earth, but other than the mice I can't think of any that would be a closer match.

Quite possibly. What sort of foods are common on your... planet?
[Forgive him; this is still an unfamiliar concept.]
If not beef, pork, or chicken... do you indulge in mutton or venison instead? What about bear?
