[Though the face was unfamiliar, the fuss over the payment called to mind several experiences that were simply impossible for him to forget-- and he instinctively found himself glancing over the woman's nametag before continuing his address.]

Free. We came together, which effectively fulfills the parameters of a 'couple' in the dictionary. Also, I'll be paying for everything-- Anna.

[He lifted an eyebrow at the woman, intent on impressing upon her that he wouldn't tolerate such price gouging over something so simplistic. There was no hiding the way he loosened his collar in the heat that had wafted into the little cafe at the barista's pointed words.

Robin counted out the appropriate amount of Sylves needed for the transaction and guided Allura out of the line to await their drinks-- and, heaving a flustered sigh, he held out the cookie in offering.]

A cookie for the lady's trouble? [He asked, flashing her a chagrinned smile.] And as apologies-- I sincerely did not know that promotion was ongoing.

[Hooray for rules lawyering! Honestly, though, that just makes Anna grin even more, maybe not-quite-so-covertly giving Allura a thumbs up, which doesn't really help how stunned and red-faced she is. (And the mice giving the same Cheshire cheers through their link only makes it worse.)

Still, the offer of the cookie snaps her out of her paralyzed flustering, as does the apology.]

No no, you're fine, it's a common enough mistake to make. But thank you.

[Dang the cookie looks delicious too, lightly spiced chocolate dough coated in blood orange icing. Also pretty big, so once she takes it she breaks it in half and holds one half back to Robin.]

[He hadn't brought two wars to a successful and positive end for nothing-- sometimes the best way to win was by playing the same kind of game.

Robin's brows lifted in surprise at the return offer, and he quickly glanced at the cookie in uncertainty before meeting Allura's warm smile.]

Well... if it's being offered, it'd be rude to say no.

[He accepted the other half, gladdened that he wouldn't need to make a return trip later on to try one for himself. The spiced chocolate and citrus notes reminded him of fare that could be found along the borders and port towns, where the fruits of a fine harvest met with the spices imported from elsewhere in the world.

Truly, this was a generous offer indeed.]

[Although Allura's had a chance to become familiar with human cuisine by this point, there's still some wonder to it. (Okay and MAYBE by now she understands why the paladins keep whining about food goo's taste.)

She gives a pleasantly surprised noise into the cookie.] Mm! [Chew and swallow, because princess.] I wasn't expecting the spices that's rather nice. Would those be cinnamon and... ginger?

[He chewed on his half of cookie as well, heedless of gentle breeze that ruffled his hair with his simple joy in sharing a snack with a new friend.]

Ginger and cardamom, I think. The latter's harder to find along standard trade routes-- I hear that the tree is more difficult to grow than either ginger or cinnamon.

Is it now? Hm, agriculture must be more advanced in this world, cinnamon's a fairly common baking ingredient here. Hunk certainly uses it often enough.

Well, I imagine that the magic carried in our emotions may play a part. Agriculture where I'm from is still strongly dictated by the climate and seasons. Farmers do what they can... but they can only do so much.

Fair enough. Still, most of these ingredients are still new to me; my planet and the Earth in my world are very far apart, so our flora and fauna are obviously quite different and that effects the differences in cuisine as well.

[Save for the mice, of course, who are wondering when they're going to start talking about doki-dokis instead of boring plant things.]

Quite possibly. What sort of foods are common on your... planet?

If not beef, pork, or chicken... do you indulge in mutton or venison instead? What about bear?

Venison... Ah, deer meat! But no, none of those animals existed on Altea at all. There are a few species that had superficial similarities to those native to Earth, but other than the mice I can't think of any that would be a closer match.

... Did you say bear? Are we still talking about the large ferocious omnivore, or a different creature?

The one and same. It's a fatty meat, but when it's prepared and cured properly it makes for an excellent jerky-- and you can't be too picky about your meals when you're travelling by foot.

But...

[He paused, looking at her curiously.]

Did you say 'Altea'?

I... yes. Yes, it's the name of my planet. You've heard of it?

[Could it be? She knows his world doesn't have much in the way of astronomy yet, that it might be just a similar name, but still. She also can't help the look that flickers about her face, like seeing the ghost of a loved one.]

[A sheepish smile graced his lips as he continued, and he wished he had a map on hand so he could provide a visual for Allura to study.]

The continent of Ylisse is made of three countries: Ylisse, Plegia to the west, and Regna Ferox to the north. These countries weren't always in their present form, you know-- times change, people change...

History happens.

The records from before Ylisse's founding are honestly a disorganized mess, but I recall spotting reference to a Kingdom of Altea that existed 2,000 years ago. It was the homeland of the Hero King, Marth-- who is also one of the ancient ancestors of the Exalted bloodline of Ylisse.

[That hopeful light fades. She knew, even more than usual when something or someone brings forth that familiarity, but she still seems to be unable to stop from asking.]

A-ah, how interesting. ... If you'd like, I could show you my Altea. The amulets allow us to share images as well.

[The fading light in Allura's eyes was disappointing to behold, for it had made the flower-like depths of them glimmer in a way that was most fascinating while they waited for their Peromei Frapps. Perhaps, he could find a way to restore it once again...]

Do they? [He asked, brows lifting in his interest at that revelation.] How fascinating. There's something new to be found every day in this land.

...I won't press you over your lost land, [Robin added, knowing how the recollections of a land that no longer existed could pull at the heartstrings. He had seen it too many times, with another young royal who had lost everything.]

However, if you so wish, I don't mind sharing what I've seen of Ylisse with you.

[He chuffed and, with one final smile, closed his eyes and concentrated on an image of the bustling streets of Ylisstol. The warmth of joy and an overflowing sense of hope could be felt through this one single image-- and it was clear even with a glance that, although the palace stood high on a hill in the distance, it was the people that was the true lifeblood of the Halidom.

For all of Chrom and Emmeryn's works, none of it could have happened if the people didn't already have a seed of hope in their hearts.]

[There... that's one of the things she missed most about Altea, really, the one she looked forward to when she'd become queen. Her people, her culture, being able to see it grow and become in greater with her care, being able to care for and protect them.]

Your country's beautiful, Robin...

[As for hers, well... it's certainly bigger from above, but the feelings radiating from that bright blue and white orb are the same, especially as she shows him the fields and cities. Beautiful but dangerous, survived only by working together and outsmarting whatever the nature here could throw at them, intelligent, willing to reach out to others and to defend those in need. This was Altea, her home and her kingdom.]

My... so that's a planet, seen from above.

[Robin's fascination with the way this immense marble of a planet seemed so small and lonesom in the inky void that it floated in could be felt through their connection-- this was science of a calibur beyond his learning, but it wasn't beyond what he felt he was capable of understanding.

A single kingdom overtaking an entire world must have been quite a feat. How many decades and centuries had it taken to build? What sort of beasts or obstacles needed to be fought before it metamorphosized into it's full form?

For all that was different between their two homes, there was still one commonality between them that couldn't be ignored: Love. There was love along the streets and in the fields. And, while it wasn't perfect, love made it worth every effort to preserve.]

Your home is lovely as well. I would like to see it in person... someday. If the strange powers of this land should allow it.

[The smile turns sad again, and she cuts the link before too much can leak through.]

I... yes, it would be nice, to visit each other's worlds. I could still show you the rest of the universe but... I'm afraid Altea hasn't existed for a long time in my world either.

[That little bit of melancholy and nostalgia was enough, though-- and Robin felt a twinge of guilt over prying. This wasn't yet like conversing with one of the Shepherds-- Allura was still a relative stranger, with only this country and a name shared between the two of them.]

I'm sorry to hear that, [he said quietly, keeping his tone level so as to not make a scene.] You've my apologies for asking-- I shouldn't have assumed so much in such a short time.

[--It was his inexperience, he knew. For as skilled as he was, the aspects he was missing were undeniable.]
