[Felicia, as strangely ditzy as she could be at times, may have missed some of the story. Or may not. Trinity was a can of worms Lara hadn't really tried to drag out into the open, not with her, but it was entirely possible that her partner had in fact picked up on it anyway. Lara wasn't exactly hiding it, just not directly involving her.

The sound of a voice and feet on stone drew Lara upright, whirling reflexively, but thankfully she hadn't immediately gone for the gun at her waist. Fingers splayed out wide, she blinked in startled surprise.]

Felicia?!

[Hopping up, shaking the water off her hands, she stepped closer. Mud, blood, and sweat still streaked down her face, but there was a smile there. For her, there'd always be one.]

God, what are you doing all the way out here? Thought you were at camp.

[Some tell-tale signs of a problem were so obvious that even a ditzy 20-something would catch notice of them with enough time and exposure. While Felicia didn't know the full details, she did recall the many, many times Lara had returned to town with unexplained injuries, and her knowledge of weapon handling was so finely honed that it was beyond the skills of a mere layman anymore.

But, Felicia didn't need to know the details either. She trusted Lara, and knew that the details would come to light in their own time. Forcing the issue had the potential to ruin a friendship that she cherished, and she didn't want to risk that.

Lara's happiness meant the world to Felicia-- and seeing Lara like this made her nerves tremble with worry.]

I was-- but it's well passed time that you should have checked in, [Felicia said, unflinchingly stepping forward while she pulled a clean towel out of her bag.] I got worried. We'll have big trouble if anything happens out here.

[She looked up, blue eyes meeting Lara's with a firm determination that was uncommon with her dreamy demeanor.

There were times when even the Fool needed to be serious. This was one of them.]

[That drew Lara up straight, her back stiffening, her eyes blinking in surprise. She looked up and scanned the horizon, noting the position of the sun and mentally cursed herself. She had missed check in, and she hadn't even thought about it. Felicia's worry was more than justified now, and Lara's stomach sank a little as her gaze finally met her friend's.]

Shit. Shit, I'm sorry, Felicia.

[Swallowing heavily, she stepped closer and took the girl's free hand in hers, the rough strength of it apparent even though she squeezed tenderly. Of course Felicia had been worried, and this was not the way to greet her. She may have been a softer person than Lara but that didn't mean she was any less important.]

I didn't mean to worry you, love. I just got...well...

[She gestures to her face, finally accepting the towel. She didn't use it yet, still holding onto Felicia's hand, smiling a self deprecating smile. Admittedly Felicia sometimes made her nervous, and she'd been a little reticent to bring her along instead of Jonah, but the big Maori had been laid up in the hospital and the other girl had practically insisted. And here Lara was, failing to live up to the promise of always checking in.]

I had a bit of a time of it, I guess. I must look a right mess, eh?

A terrible one.

[A fight must have happened, from the look of things. The patterning of bruises and blood on Lara's face and hands didn't match that of a fall-- and Felicia knew well the gamut of injuries that could be caused simply by being clumsy.

No, this was something else, and her worry showed in the way her brow creased when she squeezed Lara's hand in return. Felicia had long accepted that there were some details that couldn't be shared, but that did little to ease the concern she felt whenever she found Lara with that bitter smile on her face. All she could do was take a breath to ease her nerves... and offer an anxious one in return.]

I'll bet you left them a bigger one, [Felicia added, reaching up to tenderly brush a few strands of Lara's hair from her brow while she spoke.]

You always do.

Yeah. Yeah. I...definitely gave them what for.

[Felicia, for all her flaws, was surprisingly perceptive. She'd definitely grown to recognize the signs that Lara had been fighting, even if the last scion of the Crofts never spoke of it. Sighing softly, Lara leaned into that touch, letting Felicia touch her cheek. Her smile grew more genuine then, a light finally touching her eyes.]

We should probably make our way to the tent. I'll...explain there.

[All of it, she means. Because Felicia shouldn't keep living in the dark like this. Not any longer. Still sore, she tried putting more weight on her leg and grunted in pain.]

May need your help though. One of the bastards nicked my leg. Nothing serious, but it's definitely something slowing me down.

We'll need to get that disinfected and stabilized,

[Felicia said, putting on a wry smile for Lara as she fell into position, arm wrapped around Lara's waist and a firm shoulder offered for support.]

It's a good thing we brought a full first aid kit for this trip, isn't it?

[And doubly good that Felicia had the foresight to take a few emergency first aid courses on the side-- for, even without knowing the depth of the situation in it's entirety, Felicia knew that she wanted to offer Lara the best form of support that she could. The simplest means of reaching that goal was educating herself as best as she could... and, she made sure to ace those courses with top marks.]

We'll just take our time and rewwork our plans when we need to. It'll be fine!

[Lara leans heavily on her friend, not too proud to accept aid when it's offered. Especially not from someone as earnest and eager to help as Felicia. Chuckling to herself, she nods and starts moving slowly, focusing ahead.]

You're right. I managed to dress it to stem any bleeding, but I didn't get it cleaned well.

[Those classes really made all the difference, and she'd come to see Felicia not just as someone she could rely on, but on someone she could trust with her life. The hard work she put in just to be helpful was beyond appreciated, and it increased her esteem of the girl a hundredfold easily.]

Any trouble at the camp while...While I was preoccupied?
maidhem: (determined)

[personal profile] maidhem 2017-05-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Appreciation wasn't even necessary for Felicia's efforts, when the knowledge that Lara was alive and safe would always be enough for Felicia to sleep comfortably at night. Even now, despite the blood and the bruises all over Lara's legs and body, Felicia felt significantly better just knowing that she was here by her side.]

That's okay. You did what you could-- and that's a really good start for what we've gotta do later.

[Felicia smiled, her expression as bright as if there hadn't been a crisis at all despite her ruse being plain to anyone who knew her. The trust Felicia had in Lara's strength of will and her capabilities was counterbalanced only by her concern for worrying her friend, despite understanding that her worries were needless.

The trust was there, and was shared between the both of them.

They made a good team.]

There was no trouble at the camp, [Felicia replied, gingerly guiding Lara along the path she had taken.] Nothing big, anyway. But, local villagers weren't very keen on talking, either.

...I wonder if everything's connected, now that I've seen the trouble you had.

[personal profile] adventurology 2017-05-09 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[The bond they shared was different than the survivors of the Endurance, maybe, but the monumental act of placing complete trust in Lara Croft...in any Croft for that matter...meant a lot to her. She'd fought for years to clear her father's name, to make her family's name matter, to prove that she wasn't just some crackpot and at times it seemed like only Felicia and the other Survivors took her seriously. It was nice, having that pillar to lean on, even if Felicia was the last person she wanted tossed into a fire fight.]

Probably.

[A bitter edge enters Lara's tone as her eyes scan the horizon, zeroing in on the village in the distance. Some of those people had been locals...]

Wouldn't be the first time someone's tried to sell me out.

[But that's not the point of this. Right now, the goal is getting cleaned up. And...]

You did like I asked and made our real camp a mile east of where those villagers saw it, right?

[No sense in risking that much. It may have been paranoid, but with her leg like this, and Felicia not being much for a fight, it was better safe than sorry. Lara could take care of them both, if it came to it, but the less risk the better. especially now.]
maidhem: (we can do this!)

[personal profile] maidhem 2017-05-12 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Trust was something that Felicia freely gave to people who were kind to her, especially if that person was the sort who accepted her quirks and her clumsiness at face value but didn't judge her on them like many already had in her life. Their friendship had helped Felicia build up some much needed confidence in herself-- and, just as Lara didn't judge her on face value, Felicia had paid her the same respect.

After all, it was all that she ever wanted for herself.]

Of course!

[Felicia chirped, casting Lara a bright smile that left a small hint of pride sparkling in her blue eyes.]

I left a dummy camp there, too. That way, our little trick holds up if they decide to investigate.

[Lara breathed a heavy sigh of relief and sagged a little against Felicia, her steps picking up the pace just a little bit. It felt good, having that connection and having someone who she could rely on. Sure those instructions were simple enough, but Felicia had gone through with them without question, accepting them (and Lara's logic) at face value.]

You are brilliant, you know that.

[Which, honestly, she found herself saying more and more often. Felicia had really wormed her way into Lara's good graces with just a few cheerful words and reminders of her own humanity.]

I don't know what I'd do without you.

[Probably be laying on the lake shore, contemplating all her life choices.

Not that she has much energy left at the moment. Her leg wobbled, making her stumble a little, pulling down hard on Felicia by accident.]

-AH!
